What Is The Importance Of The Sun?

The Sun is the source of life on Earth. The three main reasons that justify the importance of the Sun are the following:

What is the importance of the Sun?
  • Provides heat to the earth. The Sun heats the Earth, making it the right temperature for living things to live on.
  • Provides light. Light helps provide energy to Earth, through electromagnetic energy. It also helps animals see day and night (across the moon). This light also helps plants grow thanks to photosynthesis. Plants are vital to human life.
  • The Sun's gravity helps keep the planets in a stable orbit around the Sun. Without it, the planets would not rotate and would describe a rectilinear path.

The Sun is directly or indirectly responsible for the vast majority of the planet's energy sources. In addition to having a direct importance in photovoltaic solar energy and thermal solar energy, it has influence in other renewable energies such as wind energy.

In the case of wind energy, the sun is responsible for heating large amounts of mass that, when changing density, move, generating a space that will occupy another mass of cold air. This mass movement is the wind.

Importance in fossil energy

The fossil energy that comes from fossil fuels

Fossil fuels like coal or oil have been generated from organic compounds that were generated fed by solar radiation through photosynthesis.

Despite having their origin in the Sun, this type of energy is considered non-renewable energy because the process of transformation into fossil fuels takes millions of years.

Importance in wind energy

Wind energy harnesses the force of the wind.

The wind originates from solar energy. The sun unevenly heats the surface of the earth. This heat passes into the air. The density of the air varies with the temperature, so that it produces areas of high and low pressures. This variation generates displacements of the air that surrounds the earth, giving rise to the wind.

Importance in hydraulic energy

Hydraulic energy harnesses the potential energy of water. Therefore, the water must have a certain height.

How do you get the water up to the mountains?

Through the water cycle. The sun heats the sea water, which turns into steam. The steam rises due to its lower density with the air and forms clouds. When the water condenses again it falls again as rain on the mountains.

Therefore, hydraulic energy also depends on solar energy.
